Halloween Party at IOOF Hall, Saturday, October 21st, 6 PM-8PM

 

 

Double, doublevintage halloween, toil and trouble,
Fires burn, and cauldrons bubble…
Calling all witches, goblins and ghosts

 

The IOOF Hall is the place to be on October 21st for lots of fun activities.  Dress up for the Costume Contest (by age groups).  Enjoy the popular Cake Walk (donations gratefully accepted), the Fish Pond, and other games.  Loads of prizes.  Refreshments.  The time is 6 PM.  Bring pumpkins, carved or stenciled for the Pumpkin Contest.  New this year is a Scarecrow Contest.  Contact Darla for information or to help with the proceedings, 208.839.2205.

 

 

Some fun facts about Halloween:  Did you know?

  • Other names for Halloween are All Hallows’ Eve, Witches Night, Lamswool, Snap-Apple Night, Samhaim, and Summer’s End.
  • Trick-or-treating began in areas of the United Kingdom and Ireland.  People went house-to-house “souling” – asking for small breads called “soul cakes” in exchange for prayer.
  • Adults also went door-to-door asking for food and drinks in exchange for a song or dance.
  • Halloween is thought to have originated around 4000 B.C., which means Halloween has been around for over 6,000 years.
  • Halloween was brought to North America by immigrants from Europe who would celebrate the harvest around a bonfire, share ghost stories, sing, dance and tell fortunes.
