Hammer Creek is a popular put in site for rafters who want to explore the Lower Salmon River Canyons on the Main Salmon River in Idaho.  Take the ‘Hammer Creek’ exit from Hwy 95 onto ‘Old 95’.  You’ll drive on the silver bridge, crossing the Salmon River, and just before the bridge, is a great campground – Swiftwater RV Park – with showers, restrooms coin-operated laundry and free wifi. Swiftwater welcomes tent campers – especially river rafters –  and they have a place to store vehicles if needed.

To get to Hammer Creek, after crossing the silver bridge, turn right on Doumecq Road and you’ll find Hammer Creek Park a few miles down the road.   White water family trips blend stunning landscapes with hot sun, warm water, great rapids and the most beautiful white sand beaches of any river in the West.

The Lower Salmon Float Experience: You’ll float 60 miles of the Salmon River, through twisted volcanic canyons, steep mountains and a seemingly endless western sky to Heller Bar just north of Asotin Washington. As cliffs and boulders constrict the river, Class II-IV rapids offer exciting white water action. Between the rapids you can relax, drift and enjoy the mountain vistas.    Stop off along the way for short hikes to discover Native American pictographs, ancient Chinese miner rock cabins, spectacular canyon lands and great fishing.

You can also take out at Pine Bar which offers a nice half day float from Hammer Creek.   Pine Bar is best accessed from Cottonwood. Follow Graves Creek Road to the Salmon River, go left at the river to the end at Pine Bar.
